Part A
From these interviews, you can gather that people were working as hard as ever even harder actually. People took on dangerous jobs like Chris Thorsten and Mr. Garavelli who both worked dangerous jobs. Chris was severly injured after he got squezed between a crane and Mr Garavelli workied in granite mines. Women also started to work. Women like Alice Caudle,Bernice,Mrs. Elizabeth E. Miller,Mrs. Marie Haggerty,Mrs. Mayme Reese all started to work. Alice worked in a cotton mill. She was a hard worker but was limited by her gender. Bernice rented out her apartments for "rent parties". Mrs. Elizabeth cut up a hog by herself so they could have food in the winter. Mrs Marie continued her line of works as a maid. Mrs. Mayme started quilting parties where she made quilts with a few other women and sold them for money. As people tried to work longer and harder, they started to form unions. Unfortunately , African American weren't allowed into said unions and people such as Jim Cole who spent his day butchering meat for 20 years were left out. From these people I can conclude that are working harder than ever to try and maintain their jobs and to earn a little more money because of the harsh times.
